Local comedy club is a place to forget all worries

With high levels of stress piling up from school, students need a night full of laughter once in a while, and the local Punch Line Comedy Club on Arden Way is sure to offer that to students.

On Wednesday, the club held Comedy Kill, a show with some of the best stand-up comedians in Northern California.

Not only did students gather at the establishment as audience members, but some of the comedians were Sacramento State students.

Communications major Steven Furey, showed that it is possible to balance his comedy career and responsibility as a student.

Furey was one of the acts Wednesday and delivered witty stand-up about his home life and daily grind and kept the audience captured with his sarcastic sense of humor.

“I work for three different clubs- laughs unlimited, comedy spot, and I’m trying to break in here,” Furey said.

The acts were edgy and made the audience laugh with the comedians’ crude humor and delivered jokes about rejection and other taboo topics.

Cocktail server for the club Janelle Murphy, said Comedy Kill is special because it brings Sacramento’s up and coming comedians.

Murphy, who is also a comedian, explained her love for comedy.

“I think it is such an awesome art because you are able to express yourself while making people happy and bringing joy to their day.”

The audience seemed to be supportive of the performers who were bold enough to get on stage and share their love for making people laugh.

Audience member Joanna Watson attended the event after work.

“It seemed like it was a lot of younger comedians but I don’t mind, I’m all for supporting people.”

Whether being part of the audience or on stage performing, Punch Line is a place for students to let out a good laugh.
