Laura De la Garza Garcia, spanish editor
Monterrey, Nuevo León Mexico native Laura De la Garza Garcia is the spanish editor for The State Hornet. She is a fourth-year student double majoring in Nutrition and Food, and Journalism. She joined The State Hornet in spring 2022 as a general rotational staffer reporting on news, arts and entertainment and sports. De la Garza Garcia has worked with KCRA 3’s Estrella TV, wrote a few columns for ‘El Heraldo’ city newspaper in Saltillo Mexico and established a National Association of Hispanic Journalists student chapter in Sacramento. Currently, she interns for the Sacramento Bee and hopes to graduate in Spring 2023.

Monserrat (mimi) Covarrubias joined The State Hornet this fall 2022 semester. She is a fourth-year student and will be working with the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) section. She is very excited to work and create new connections this semester.

Hugo Quintanilla moved from Los Angeles to Sacramento in the summer of 2021. He joined the State Hornet in spring 2022, and now does Social Media for the State Hornet.

Nancy Rodriguez-Bonilla is a third-year journalism student from Santa Ana. She is starting her fourth semester at The State Hornet and is excited to continue shining a light on the stories of Hispanic/Latinx communities.
Lawrence Charles, podcast staffer

Lawrence Charles has been a part of The State Hornet’s podcast section since fall 2022 and was named the Best Podcast Staffer of the semester. He is a communication studies major with a minor in journalism. He is the current Station Manager of KSSU, Sacramento State's student-run radio station, where he produces his weekly show, Just “Hour” Thoughts, which won the award for Best Free Format Show of 2021. Charles was also awarded fourth place in the podcast category at the Best of Show Fall National College Media Convention for his work in the State Hornet Buzzed Hispanic Heritage Month Special. He hopes to use what he has learned to pursue a successful career in radio following his graduation.
