Ettore’s European Bakery and Restaurant is a family oriented eatery that has been serving Sacramento locals baked goods since the 1980s.

Located only a few miles from campus at 2376 Fair Oaks Blvd, Ettore’s is a popular and critically acclaimed bakery that serves not only great tasting and looking cakes, but also offers a wide variety of American comfort food classics with a gourmet twist for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Once a customer walks into Ettore’s, they are greeted with a large glass case displaying dozens of their award winning cakes, cookies, and pastries which can all be ordered whole or by the slice.

Judging by the restaurant and bakery and seeing how busy it was, I can see why people liked coming here.

Assistant manager Lisa Calk said people like coming to Ettore’s is because of the friendly staff and the great food.

“We use all natural ingredients (because) we have an award winning executive chef,” Calk said. “We have people coming in seven days a week.”

What this bakery and restaurant features are items such as European cakes, daily treats, specialty desserts, cupcakes, cookies, wedding and specialty cakes, breakfast pastries, European breads and chocolates.

The Kahlua European cake consists of three alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate sponge cake with a thin layer of apricot preserves and is filled with mocha pastry cream. The cake is topped in a smooth chocolate glaze made me feel like I was in sweet tooth heaven. The cake itself was moist and the topping of the cake was sweet enough to not overpower the dessert.

Their top selling cookie the Chocolate Chewy, consists of cocoa powder, powdered sugar, egg whites and walnuts. This is not your typical chocolate cookie because compared to all the generic cookies I’ve had before, this cookie was soft and fluffy to the taste and it instantly melted in my mouth.

For customers who aren’t in the mood to indulge in their sweet tooth, a few steps away is their restaurant where they can order some of the best salads and sandwiches Sacramento has to offer.

The quality of the chef’s ingredients and preparation really shows in their award winning Ettore’s burger.

The burger is generously topped with crisp red leaf lettuce, juicy tomatoes, swiss cheese and sautéed mushrooms sandwich between freshly baked scallion cheddar buns.

If patrons want a more Californian twist to this delectable burger, they can add avocado and bacon for a few extra dollars.

Whether it’s buying the perfect cake for a party or grabbing a quick bite to eat after class, Ettore’s offers some of the best choices in Sacramento to leave a student’s belly full and sweet tooth satisfied.
