Playing in front of more than 350 fans, Breathe Carolina had its fans jumping with hands raised Thursday night at Sacramento State.

Students from Sac State, local high and middle schools could feel vibrations in their chest from the stage throughout the hour-long performance. Breathe Carolina played extra songs after fans chanted “One more song,” on two occasions after its planned set was finished.

The fans screamed at the start of every new song and sang along while many couples stood near the back of the crowd. Band member Kyle Even took a short break from headbanging to go crowd surfing midway through the show. A few fans sat on each other’s shoulders and dozens of people brought out their phones to record portions of the concert.

Senior child development major Nicol Ruggiero came to see one of the opening bands. She said she enjoyed Breathe Carolina though and their performance was a fun dance party.

“I came to support my boyfriend’s band, Taking’s not Stealing,” Ruggiero said.

Fans had their middle fingers raised when “I.D.G.A.F.” was played. Someone tossed a pair of shoes on stage when asked to by the band and a woman threw her bra to the singers.

Three campus police members were in attendance and said everyone carried themselves accordingly.

“Fantastic crowds, friendly bands,” said Sgt. Brian Burger.

Christa Vandagriff brought four high school seniors, including her daughter for her birthday, and two middle school students to the show. Despite the rowdy nature of the crowd near the stage, Vandagriff said all six of the girls had a lot of fun.

“They were upfront and in the middle,” Vandagriff said.”They’ve seen them before.”

Group members tossed water bottles to the fans near the end of the show as many worked up a sweat during the show.

Sophomore biology major Gunnar Whealy attended a Breathe Carolina performance before and his been a fan ever since. He said it was weird to have so many young fans in attendance but didn’t mind. Whealy said the entire show was awesome, but was a little relieved when the show was over.

“I got a drink after the show because I was so sweaty during the show,” Whealy said.
