The Delta Gamma Foundation at Sacramento State held a fundraiser for Service for Sight on Thursday in the Library Quad.

The theme of the fundraiser was “Most Beautiful Eyes” and the group had jars on a table that displayed a photo of a pair of eyes. Each photo was the eyes of a fraternity member from each organization on campus and people would drop spare change into the jar with the best eyes.

The fundraiser is also a penny war and the fraternity member with the most change wins.

Delta Gamma Foundation’s philanthropy and Service for Sight’s mission are to improve the lives of blind children and adults. Service for Sight teaches specialized skills to blind or visually impaired children as well as volunteering to give adults personal attention.

The goal is to raise $10,000 by 4 p.m. today and so far, $7,000 have been raised for Service for Sight.

Communications Studies senior and Delta Gamma member Kelly Grealish said the penny war consists of dollars and silver change, which represents positive points. Pennies equal negative points for the contestants’ jars.

“One member from each fraternity is running for sweetheart in the anchorman competition,” Grealish said. “You wanna get quarters, dollars and silver change in your own jar. Pennies in other (contestants’) jars takes away from the coins they have.”

The Delta Gamma Foundation will also host the Anchorman Pageant on Saturday to continue raising money. Contestants will create swimsuits, sunglasses and sailor hats made by contestants and will model them said senior recreational parks major and director of Anchor Splash for Delta Gamma Michaela Katz.

The apparel will be auctioned during the pageant and the money will go directly to Service for Sight.

Contestants of the “Most Beautiful Eyes” fundraiser will get extra points if their fashions get auctioned.

“They will (also) do a lip synching routine,” Katz said. “They each picked a song out of a hat and they have to do a routine for that. It (will be) a good laugh.”

Katz said they will also host the Anchor Splash on Sunday, which includes swim relays and synchronized swimming.

The winner of the “Most Beautiful Eyes” fundraiser will earn the “Sweetheart of the Year” title and will be announced at the Anchorman Pageant.
