Introductory letter from the editor

Alex Poggione

Welcome (back) to campus! My name is Alexandra Poggione and I am editor in chief of The State Hornet, Sac State’s student newspaper since 1949.

This year at the Hornet, we are making some changes and adding in some new content we hope will be more interesting, relevant and useful to you over the upcoming months. The editors and I have already put in long hours trying to get a jumpstart into making this year more successful than ever before.

We now have five sections: Campus, which will have updates on student government, tuition, classes, events and other important topics; Food & Fun, which will cover food, drink, special diets and restaurants; Opinion, which will have commentary on campus, national and world events; Entertainment, which will cover television, movies, video games, theater and other forms of entertainment; and Sports, which will cover home and away games for our sports teams as well as professional teams.

All of us on the Hornet staff would love to hear your feedback and input. We want your story ideas and photos in order to make this a better semester. We want you to know we value your voice. However, we also want you to know that this is a student learning lab. Our writers, editors and photographers are learning as they go along, just like every other student on campus. It is inevitable that we will make mistakes, and we ask for your patience along the way.

If you have not done so already, make sure to “Like” our Facebook page at facebook.com/statehornet and follow us on Twitter @TheStateHornet. We will also be adding Pinterest and Instagram accounts, so keep your eyes open for updates.

I know I speak on behalf of the entire State Hornet staff in wishing you the best of luck with classes, navigating the walkways and making the best of all the opportunities available to you here on campus.

Sincerely,

Alexandra Poggione
