The California State University Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote on a 15 percent student fee increase next week.

“The chancellor’s office is proposing to increase tuition in a two-step process to support 30,000 students this spring and give students and families more time for financial planning,” said CSU spokesman Erik Fallis.

The fee increases will be taken up by the financial committee on Nov. 9 and by the full board on Nov. 10.

The first phase is a 5 percent mid-year fee increase, which will take effect in the beginning of spring. This translates into an additional $105 per year for most undergraduate students, Fallis said.

The second phase is a 10 percent fee increase for school year 2011-12 and translates into about $444 per year, Fallis said.

Fallis said the CSU chancellor’s office is hoping not to implement the 10 percent fee increase by requesting the governor and the Legislature to buy it out through state funds.
