Over the weekend the Sacramento State cycling team president, Emily Kachorek, pedaled her way to 21st place in the 2009 Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals.

The event was held at the Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort in Lake Tahoe, Calif.

Two Sac State cyclists qualified for the event, Kachorek and Jennifer Zierke. Zierke was unable to attend the event.

Kachorek participated in two events over the course of the weekend. On Friday, she raced in the Cross Country Race, which is a 23 mile high altitude race. On Saturday, Kachorek represented Sac State in the Short Track Event, which requires each participant to bike as many laps as possible in 30 minutes. Both competitions fell under the Endurance events category.

Kachorek said she was content with placing 21st out of 45 riders.

“I was biking with the best collegiate riders in the US. From the women who made the top ten, the first place winner is a pro cyclist, and the third place winner, from South Africa, has won 11 (championship) titles,” Kachorek said. “So basically, the top ten are generally really, really good.”
