The Sacramento State women’s soccer team bounced back from their Friday lost, by defeating Northern Colorado 4-0 on Sunday at Hornet Soccer field.

“It was a big win, we had an emotional lose on Friday,” head coach Randy Dedini said. “To be able to turn around and play this well on a Sunday was big for us.”The Hornets’ (7-6-1) came out firing as they scored their first goal just over a minute into the game by junior forward Erin Tarantino as she made her first goal of the season. In the sixth minute junior Kim Kemper scored her fourth goal of the season, junior forward Ashley Forbes was credited with the assist.

Sacramento State added two more goals to their lead when freshmen midfielder Paige Tucker scored her first goal of the season in the 53rd minute. Junior forward Danielle Holloway also scored her first goal of the season in the 79th minute.

“I passed it to Kim (Kemper) and she passed it back, and I took the shot,” Tucker said.

Sac State’s offense was the aggressor as they out shot Northern Colorado 19-10. The Hornets defense also played well as freshmen goalie Savannah Abercrombie made five saves, as she shutout Northern Colorado.

“Savannah has been great, we always knew she had the talent she just hadn’t have the experience yet,” Dedini said. “She’s been kind of thrown in to it but she’s responding like a mature veteran.”

With this win the Hornets improve their Big Sky Conference record to 1-1-0. The Hornets next game will be on Oct. 17 at Hornet Soccer field when they take on another conference rival the Eastern Washington Eagles.
