Hornet gymnastics places fourth

Sacramento State gymnastics posted a season-high road score of 193.850 on Saturday at the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational hosted by Oregon State.

The Hornets placed fourth in the meet behind No. 8 Oregon State (197.200), No. 19 Boise State (196.575) and No. 14 Missouri (195.325), but the score will replace a 191.450 to raise the teams’ Regional Qualifying Score.

Senior Melissa Genovese topped the beam for Sac State with a score of 9.850 and tied for eight place.

Freshman Alycia Chan topped the Hornets on vault with a score of 9.775 and tied for 12th place.

Junior Marina Borisova tied for fourth on the floor with a score of 9.875 and tied for seven place on the bars with a score of 9.825 to top Sac State on both events.

Genovese placed sixth with a score of 38.950 and Borisova tied for seventh with a score of 38.575 in the all-around.

The Hornets will travel to UC Davis to compete in the final meet before the Western Athletic Conference Championships in a quad-meet with the Aggies, Stanford and San Jose State at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
