Cross country teams tie at Championships
Scott Grose and Renisha Robinson led the men’s and women’s teams, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Hornets to top honors. The men tied for fifth and the women tied for seventh place in the Big Sky Championships in Missoula, Mont.
Grose fell into 24th place after a 25:54.0 8K race. Jeffrey Paneda (25:54.8) finished in 25th, Colin Szehner (26:05.9) placed 28th, Daniel Carlson (26:11.6) took 32nd, Jason Sey (26:19.9) placed 38th and David Rabinowitz (27:33.8) took 58th to round out the men’s team, which scored 144.
Robinson finished nearly 30 second ahead of her teammates, finishing 22nd with a time of 18:57.1 in the women’s 5K race. Jodie Leal (19:35.4) finished 38th, Lora Marchini (19:37.6) took 40th, Mary Wagner (19:40.2) placed 41st, Erin Wachter (20:00.7) took 49th and Athena Gillen (21:04.7) placed 60th to round out the women’s team, which scored 185.
Sac State rowing hosts competition
The Hornets hosts many teams in the Head of the Ameircan last Saturday at Lake Natoma.
Sac State’s team (21:08) placed sixth in the women’s novice collegiate eight. Sac State’s A teams (18:20) tied for sixth and Sac State’s B teams (19:01) tied for ninth in the women’s collegiate eight. Sac State’s team placed 15th in the women’s collegiate four.
The teams will travel to the Newport Fall Regatta on Sunday.
Volleyball team home for five consecutive matches
The Hornets open their five-game homestand with a 3-2 non-conference loss to Nevada.
Sac State will take on Weber State on Friday,Idaho State on Saturday, Montana State on Nov. 9, and Montana on Nov. 10. All games will begin at 7 p.m. in the Hornets Nest.
Women’s soccer regains No. 1 in conference
After the 1-1 tie to Northern Colorado last Friday. The Hornets lost the No. 1 title in the Big Sky Conference, but took back the lead after the 2-0 victory over Northern Arizona last Sunday.
Sac State will host Portland State in the final game of the season on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Hornet Soccer Field.
The game will also honor seniors Katie McCoy, Katie Burton and Amanda Gray as their final season match at home.
McCoy and Taylor named Player of the Week
Senior Katie McCoy recorded her second consecutive and third Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week. McCoy netted the solo goal in the 1-1 tie to Northern Colorado and the winning goal in the 2-0 victor over over Northern Arizona last weekend.
Junior Kara Taylor was named the conferences co-Defensive Player of the Week. Taylor helped the Hornets in last weeks games as only one goal, a penalty kick, got past keeper Mandy Trojan. The junior also also assisted McCoy during the win against Northern Arizona.
Football tickets on sale for Causeway Classic
Tickets for the 54th annual Causeway Classic are on sale now on hornetsports.com. UC Davis will travel to Hornet Stadium Saturday to play Sac State at 2:05 p.m.
