Legislation opposes student fee increase

Sacramento State Associated Students Inc. Executive Vice President Miguel Cervantes created a piece of legislation that opposes the 10 percent student fee increase proposed by the California State University Board of Trustees.

ASI will advocate to preserve the CSU as an “affordable, equitable, and an institution of quality,” according to the legislation.

Cervantes said he hopes the legislation will gain the attention of the trustees, as the fee has yet to be approved.

He said the fee increase is creating a problem for students, as they have frequently been susceptible to fee changes.

The legislation will be voted on at ASI’s formal board meeting on Dec. 5.

Students appointed to task force

After weeks of delay, Vice President of University Affairs Walter Wallace said he will recommend the appointment of students Monty Lei and Chris Smith to the Election Task Force.

Wallace said the task force is in charge of reviewing governing documents in the ASI election packets. He said the task force will create more efficient election procedures that may encourage a wider range of students to campaign.

He said the appointments have been delayed, due to difficulty in finding students willing to be on the task force. Wallace said some students were hesitant, because they did not want to become impartial and give up their ability to run for office.
