Volleyball earns back-to-back Player of the Week
After leading the Hornets volleyball team to a 3-1 record during the season-opening Mary Jo Wynn invitational, senior middle hitter Lindsay Haupt was named co-Player of the Week in the Big Sky Conference.
This marks Haupt’s fifth career award, and she is also sharing it with Portland State’s Dominique Fradella.
She tallied a .324 hitting percentage, averaged 3.06 kills and 0.81 blocks per game. Haupt recorded at least 11 kills in all four matches and earned 49 total kills with 11 errors in 111 attacks.
She was also named to the all-tournament team, along with Jennifer Ferguson.
Senior outside hitter Missie Stidham was named the Big Sky Conference co-Player of the Week during the second week of play. She carried the Hornets to a 3-0 record and tournament win in lasts week’s Bama Bash.w
Stidham shares the honor with Weber State’s Micah Lines.
She was named the tournament MVP after she led Sac State in kills in all three matches and posted averages of 5.91 kills and 4.82 digs per game and a .336 hitting percentage. She tallied 65 kills over the three matches with just 18 errors in 140 total attacks.

Cross country teams finish fourth in tourney
The Sacramento State men’s and women’s cross country teams finished fourth in the Nevada Twilight Race on Friday at Rancho San Rafael Park.
Junior Daniel Carlson led the men, finishing 24th in 21:13. Junior Jodie Leal led the women, finishing 26th in 17.03.
UCLA topped the men and UC Riverside topped the women.
Colin Szehner took 25th in 21:14, Jeffrey Paneda placed 30th in 21:36, Scott Grose finished 32nd in 21:48 and Jason Sey was 36th in 22:13 for the men.
Renisha Robinson took 27th place in 17:04, Lora Marchini was 30th in 17:17, Erin Wachter placed 36th in 17:57 and Mary Wahner finished 44th in 18:37 for the women.
Sac State hosts the Hornet Jamboree at Granite Regional Park on Sept. 15.

PGA vet replaces Adam Pohll as golf director
The Sacramento State Athletics Department announced the hiring of David Sutherland as its new golf director last Wednesday. Sutherland replaced Adam Pohll, who was hired to coach Nevada women’s golf team.
Sutherland, a PGA Tour veteran, has competed in 215 PGA events and 83 nationwide Tour tournaments during his 17-year history on the circuit.
He is a Carmichael native and Fresno State graduate. He was named two-time All-American in 1987 and 1989, named Fresno State’s Pacific Coast Athletic Association Student-Athlete of the Year, turned professional in 1989, and joined the PGA in 1997.
