Mr. Pickle’s Sandwich Shop has tasty subs at a pricey cost. The staff is eager to greet customers and fix them up a tantalizing treat. For a delicious sub experience, there are several Mr. Pickle’s locations to serve you.

Food

The sandwiches are large and meaty, filled with the fixings of lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, peppers, mayo and mustard. And the special ingredient that makes the sandwiches so flavorful – garlic sauce. The meat is piled high. The sandwiches are larger and meatier than your average sub joint. Choices of bread include wheat, sourdough, sweet and dutch crunch.

They have a variety of sandwich combinations such as the Hang Loose, #19, which has hot pastrami, bacon, cream cheese and avocado.

My favorite sub is The Mr. Pickle, #13. It has chicken breast, bacon, avocado and jack cheese. The chicken is plump and juicy. And with the garlic sauce drizzled on top this sub is absolutely mouth-watering; just make sure to bring a pack of mints for afterward.

Each location has different names for the subs, but the numbers are always the same. If you become a Mr. Pickle’s groupie, just remember the number or ingredients of the sub you love.

There are a variety of subs or you can create your own with their meat and cheese options.

Some locations don’t have fountain drinks, only beverages from a can, so no free refills.

Value

The sandwiches are $6.99. A meal for two people racked up to nearly $17. That is pricey for a casual lunch. The sandwiches are satisfying and scrumptious, but that money could be well spent on a fancier lunch, or a half tank of gas. It is not somewhere I could afford or would recommend eating all the time, but if you have never tried it, it is worth the value for a delicious sub. For those sandwich connoisseurs, you have to at least try Mr. Pickle’s once.

Also, if you go to the location near campus on 65th street, they offer half-off on Wednesdays after 4 p.m. for students. That makes for a lip-smacking sub and value.

Service

The staff welcomes you as soon as you enter the door. They are friendly and attentive. They also offered us two free chocolate chip cookies with our meal. They make the sandwiches with care and don’t just lump them together like many other sub shops. They are fast, yet not sloppy. The workers are very pleasant and make sure the customer is satisfied with their meal.

Environment

Each location has a different theme. This particular location was old-fashioned candy shop. They also served ice cream sundaes and shakes. The restaurant was clean and kept. It is a casual and comfortable environment. They have large black booths to sit in while you sink your teeth into your sub.

Overall

If you love sandwiches, then you must try Mr. Pickle’s. It is a bit on the pricey side but well worth it. The subs are filling and oh-so yummy. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant is clean.
