The 73rd ranked Sacramento State men’s tennis team limped by the University of San Francisco Dons 4-3 Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated in home matches. The Big Sky Champs improved to 15-4 on the season.

The doubles point was up for grabs first where San Francisco’s No. 3 doubles dismissed Tim Lantin and Warwick Foy 8-2. It was the first time Lantin and Foy played together as a team. Lantin is inexperienced in doubles and it showed.

“We weren’t used to feeling each other’s games,” Foy said. Foy has become accustomed to playing with Ramon Perez who did not play because of a foot injury.

Anton Stryhas and Gabriel Loredo used long rallies to win 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Number two doubles Hague Van Dillen and Xavier Barajas-Smith won 9-8 (11-9 in the tiebreaker).

Tim Lantin was the first singles player to finish winning 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6 while at No. 2 Anton Stryhas overcame shoe problems to win 6-4, 7-5.

Stryhas had to stay poised because he faced a short, but scrappy opponent.

“He hit a low ball. It often touched the net so it was hard to get back,” Stryhas said.

Number one Barajas-Smith and No. 4 Foy lost their singles matches. Barajas-Smith was up 5-2 in the tiebreaker before hitting the wall. Foy battled back from 5-1 down in the first set to lose 6-4.

At No. 5 Van Dillen lost 6-4, 3-6, 1-6, placing all the pressure on the No. 3 singles match.

All eyes were on the conclusion of No. 3 Loredo who prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

The University of Pacific is next for the Hornets at 1 p.m. Monday at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
