Taste of Chaos tour to hit Sac

The Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour invades Sacramento tomorrow, where bands including The Used, 30 Seconds to Mars, Senses Fail and more will play at Arco Arena. The tour has been described in the past as “Winter Warped,” as it draws comparisons to the summer Vans Warped Tour. However, Taste of Chaos tour is smaller in scale and resembles something more like a regular concert, said Mike Glita, bass player for Senses Fail.

Hailing from New Jersey, and veterans of both Taste of Chaos and the Warped Tour, Glita said Senses Fail had no problem with making their return to Taste of Chaos.

“Right now I’m loving being on this tour,” Glita said.

Senses Fail released their latest album, “Still Searching,” on Oct. 10 of last year. The 13 song LP released on Vagrant Records reached number 15 on the Billboard music charts, according to Billboard.com.

Glita said that playing the Taste of Chaos tour gives the band a better opportunity to play to fans who may not have the new album, or haven’t heard of the band, compared to when they played their headlining tour after the album came out. However, working their new material into the set list isn’t an exact science.

“You just kind of pick and hope you pick a good set,” Glita said with a laugh.

Some people would be surprised to hear that their new album keeps in tone with their previous efforts, something most bands are trying to avoid who fall into the screamo/emo category.

“I think a lot of bands make that mistake, to make an album and then become really artsy fartsy and do something totally different than what they started out doing,” Glita said.

During the recording of the album, the band’s lead singer, Buddy Nielsen, had quit taking antidepressants, something that Glita said was taxing on their vocalist.

“You can almost feel the pain that he was feeling and going through,” Glita said of Nielsen’s performance on the album.

The band will be on tour in North America until April 6 in Calgary, but then will play dates in Europe that will keep them on the road until mid-May. Glita said he’s been trying to do exercises to help keep his mind clear while trying not to get burned out on the long trek and is excited about stopping in the golden state.

“I always have fun coming out to California,” Glita said. “It’s warm, compared to everywhere on the east coast in the winter.”
