This weekend, the women’s tennis team will travel to Southern California. The first day of competition is Saturday, where it will face off with the University of San Diego. San Diego is 60th in the team rankings for Division I and has a record of 2-3 so far this season.

On Sunday, the team will be traveling up to UC Irvine. Irvine has a record of 6-2 and is ranked 42nd.

Director of Tennis Bill Campell said this weekend will be tough. “Our girls are playing really well right now and we will be ready to play,” Campbell said.

Sophomore Luba Schifris, who has a 5-1 match record, said the team really wants to beat Irvine. “We look forward to the match and it is really important,” Schifris said.

Last weekend Sacramento State had its first home game of the season against Montana State. The Hornets swept Montana State 7-0 in their second conference game of the year. After the game, the team immediately packed up its bags and traveled a short distance over the Causeway to UC Davis.

The Hornets swept Davis as well, winning the match 7-0. With the win over Davis, the Hornets earned five points in the Causeway Cup. The Aggies lead in the competition between the two schools by a score of 36.67 to 30.00.
