Senior Atlee Hubbard led the Sacramento State Hornets over the Pacific Tigers 3-0 (30-18, 30-22, 30-21) with a match-high 14 kills on Tuesday in a non-conference match at the Hornets Nest. The Hornets extended their winning streak to four, improving to 10-3 overall this season.

Sac State buzzed past Pacific in the last three match meetings and recorded the biggest blowout yet, although it wasn’t the most important match to head coach Debby Colberg.

I’m glad we won the match, but it wasn’t that big of an accomplishment, she said about the blowout. It was just a average team we beat.

The Hornets held the Tigers to a .100 hitting percentage and tallied 14 team blocks. The team is currently ranked 17th in the nation in blocks per game.

That’s a surprise to me, Colberg said about their ranking for blocks per game. We aren’t that big of a team, so I give the team a pat on the back.

Hubbard led the Hornets with a .407 hitting percentage as the team hit a season high .304 percentage (50-15-115).

Senior Shannon Roland recorded her ninth double-figure with 10 kills, junior Lindsey Haupt added eight kills and match-high six blocks, and junior Michelle Franz, who is currently ranked 12th in the nation with 1.67 blocks per game, had five kills, three aces, and six blocks.

Big Sky play begins today at the Hornets Nest with the Hornets matched up against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.
