Phlagleblast shows students the ins, outs of Union

Kristina Uribe

Often students take a short cut through the University Union to get to their classes, some may stop to eat or study, but most do not really know what the union has to offer.

Other than food and study areas, there is also a music listening room, a branch of the health center, a computer lab and many more useful areas. However, the only way to find out about everything the union can offer students is to see it all yourself.

Thursday is the union’s sixth annual Phlagleblast. The word and the event were thought up to familiarize students with the many resources available to them in the union.

All students have to do is explore all the offices and areas and get a card punched and they will be entered into a drawing for many great prizes.

The prize drawing will begin at 2:15 p.m., students can win anything from a New Zealand tour to an iPod. Even if you do not win, no one will leave empty-handed. Students will have their choice of a student planner or a bag.

If that’s not enough, there will also be many different types of live entertainment. Starting at 11 a.m., in the lobby and then at night in the Serna Plaza, the Latin funk group “Raigambre” will perform.

The “All Family Boys,” which consist of all family members will perform. Ten brothers and cousins that describe their style as “a throw back to the 50s, 60s and 70s old time rock ‘n’ roll vs. reggae with a 90s groove to it,” will be followed, at 7:30 p.m., by a free concert with Wonderbread 5.

Other forms of entertainment will include a magician and a martial arts club. There will even be vendors like Apple that will be eager to help students with computer problems and to introduce them to their new and old products.

If you haven’t been to the union or didn’t know that there was more to it than food and study areas, Phlagleblast is the perfect opportunity for you to have fun, explore the union and take home some free stuff.
