In true rival fashion the Sacramento State men’s team edged UC Davis in the Causeway Meet on Friday evening, while the Aggie women defeated the Hornets.

Chauncey Corbin had his best outing as a Hornet, winning the 100 and 200-meter events, as well as the 110-meter hurdles, helping Sac State defeat UCD by a slim margin at 98-86.

David Nichols continued his strong season by winning the discus and shot put, breaking the school-record in the shot put with a throw of 59-05.75.

The Hornets got another victory from senior Nick Santana in the 400-meter hurdles, but Vince D’Onofrio stole the show in a come-from-behind win in the 1,500. He was in third with just over 300 meters to go when he found a burst of energy and out-sprinted the competition. D’Onofrio’s time of 3:58.30 was six seconds faster than his previous best.

In the field, the Hornet men were just as strong — Brandon Parker won the long jump, freshman Jerrad Walls took first in the triple jump, and Geoff Fong won the hammer throw, while teammate Ryan Brandel broke a school record in winning the javelin.

The Hornet women fell to the Aggies 104-87 despite getting wins on the track from Tyriena Henley-Henderson in the 400-meters, and the 4×400 relay team. In the field, senior Shanita Bryant won the long jump for the second time this season while freshman Melissa Adams placed first in the pole vault.

The women also swept the throws, as Ashley Ast won the javelin and Laura Cadranel, a junior, broke the school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 176-02.
