Sacramento State men’s tennis team ended their season against No. 4 Cal in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships Saturday afternoon, falling 4-0.

The 2003 Big Sky Conference Champions ended their season at 12-16.

The Golden Bears received their first point of the match after two doubles wins. Cal’s No. 1 team of Steve Berke and Robert Kowalczyke, ranked No. 8 in the nation, defeated Nick Sheehan and Anders Albertsen, 8-1.

Cal then took the doubles point after Patrick Briaud and John Paul Fruttero defeated Peter Farkas and Lewis Van Splunteren, 8-3 at No. 2. Because of this win the No. 3 match was not finished.

During singles play, Cal quickly earned three wins to capture the match.

The first point came at No. 3 when Or Dekel defeated Jakub Silva, 6-0, 6-1.

Conor Niland, ranked No. 36 in the nation, defeated Albertsen at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0, for the second point. Then at No. 1, Fruttero closed out the day for Cal by defeating Sheehan, 6-0, 6-1.

This was the Hornets’ fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last five years.
