The audience was served African food and drinks, ranging from spicy to mild.
Community leaders, Sacramento State faculty, students and other organizations were present.
Lily Brutlas, a Cameroonian from Citrus Heights came with her husband and daughter.
“It was my first time of ever attending an event on a college campus in America, where Africans and African Americans were in coherence-with a unified African spirit-I felt right at home,” she said.
African outfits such as the Iro and bubba?a type of wrap and top–were showcased by African and African Americans who danced while modeling.
According to Dr. Cecil E Canton, Chairman of Africans For Re-education, Innovation, Consciousness, and Achievement, who sponsored the event, said the day created important bonds between sometimes groups.
“We Africans and African Americans, regardless of our accents, are all the same, we are too big to be divided, and the sooner we realize and accept this, the more we’ll acknowledge and love one another.”
