Tennis still undefeated

The Sacramento State women?s tennis team has been unstoppable since their 2002 season began. After Saturday?s 6-1 home victory against the University of Pacific, the Hornets remain undefeated with a 4-0 overall record.

This is the first team in program history to have four straight wins from to start the season.

Sac State dominated the courts in the singles matches as Marta Gronowicz (No.2), Roberta Fessenko (No.3), Petra Abraham (No.4), Amanda Sanches (No.5), and Italina Kirknis (No.6) defeated their competition.

The Tigers managed to get a win in the No. 1 match, as Gabriella Ludqvist fell to UOP?s Susanne Bartel. The loss was Lundqvist?s first of the year.

In the doubles matches, the Tigers gave the Hornets a bit of a scare by winning the No. 1 contest 9-7. Sac State came back strong as the tandems of Fessenko/ Kirknis and Abraham/ Sanches took care of their opposition and earned the doubles point for the Hornets.

“This was a good win for us,” head coach Bill Campbell said.Campbell was proud of the team?s performance on Saturday and hopes to keep up the winning momentum as the season progresses.

Sac State faces one of its biggest early season threats today, as they battle the 9th ranked Fresno State Bulldogs in Fresno.

“This will be a real challenge for us. I expect a good match,” said Campbell. Matches are scheduled for 2:00pm.
