Sunday?s game at Hornet field ended in a disappointing 1-0 loss for the Sacramento State women?s soccer team. Both the Hornets and the Idaho State University Bengals fought a tough battle for the win. The Hornets played hard for the entire game, but were unable to score against the Bengals. At the end of regulation, the score was 0-0.

The game was then put into two 15-minute halves of sudden death overtime. Within the first half of overtime, the Bengals managed to get one on the net. It was a hard pill to swallow, but the Hornets are putting the loss behind them and focusing on playoffs.

“We are going to playoffs,” head coach Sandra Asimos said after Sunday?s game.

Despite the loss to Idaho, the Hornets have won enough games to take them to the Big Sky Championships. Sacramento will face off against Idaho State, Weber State University and the University of Montana.

The Hornets have lost to all three teams this season, but are determined to change those losses into victories at the conference playoffs.

“We are looking to win the first round,” Asimos said. “It will be anybody?s game, and we plan to win.”

Sacramento currently has an overall record of 5-9-1 and a Big Sky record of 3-3. Big Sky Championships will be held Nov. 8-10. The location of the playoffs will be made available after all conference games have been played.

The Hornets will finish their 2001 season games this week when they play Oregon State University on Thursday and San Jose State University on Sunday. Thursday?s game begins at 3 p.m. at Hornet Field.

Sunday?s game against San Jose State will conclude all non-conference games, and the Hornets are looking to break their home-game attendance record. The attendance record stands at 769.

Sunday?s game kicks off at 1 p.m. at Hornet Field.
