Idaho State midfielder Allyssa Kenney scored with 7.2 seconds left in regulation and junior Taylor Powell the overtime winner against Sacramento State’s women’s soccer team 3-2 Thursday night at Hornet Field.

Powell scored on a short pass from freshman Amanda Ellsworth to win the game for Idaho State seven minutes into the overtime session.

Sacramento State’s goals were scored by junior Jordan Carlberg (second of the season) in the 11th minute and senior Caitlin Pulver (fifth of the season) in the 79th minute.

Following the loss, Carlberg said she felt a lot of anger and sadness.

“It’s kind of a mix of upset I guess,” Carlberg said.

In the 71st minute, midfielder Victoria Ramirez was red-carded for striking Idaho State’s Mikaela Carrillo with her palm and causing a bloody nose. The red card left Sac State to play with ten on the field the rest of the way.

“It was just idiotic, and it was a selfish thing to do for her and it cost our team in the end,” said Sac State head coach Randy Dedini.

Dedini said that the team did not possess the ball and the players were not smart with their opportunities.

“We just didn’t play very well at all and even with that we go up 2-1 and just shoot (ourselves) in the foot,” Dedini said.

Sophomore Jordyn Rolling said she felt the team dominated, but couldn’t finish.

“It didn’t go our way,” Rolling said.

Rolling shot the ball four times, once on goal.

Sac State goalkeeper Savannah Abercrombie had seven saves on the night while Idaho State goalkeeper Carly Hutchings-Maloney had three.

Idaho State out shot Sac State 20-16.

Dedini said Kenney’s tying goal represented Sac State’s bad luck this season. The last-second desperation goal came from far outside the box.

“It’s just like somebody doesn’t want us to win this year, but we got to regroup and win a game (at) Weber (State University),” Dedini said. “It’s our last game of the season and there’s still an outside chance we can get into the playoffs. So we have to try to have a short memory on this game and focus on winning that game and see how the chips fall.”

Sac State is currently in fourth place in the Big Sky Conference at 2-3-2 in conference play with one game remaining at Weber State on Sunday. The top four teams advance to the conference tournament. Fifth-place Montana State currently stands at 2-2-1 with three games remaining.
