CSU trustees ask for more state support

The California State University Board of Trustees adopted a budget that called for an approximate $379 million from the state general fund support for the 2011-12 year.

This budget proposal includes $121.5 million in “buy-out” funds to undo the 10 percent tuition increase, which is also in the budget, according to a CSU press release.

The new budget seeks funds to support continuing students from last year’s increase in enrollment.

The trustees’ budget proposal will be submitted to the State Department of Finance. In January, the CSU system will see if the requested state funds will be allocated in the Governor’s budget plan when he submits it to the Legislature. The final budget is scheduled to be adopted by June 15.

Current state support for the CSU system is at 2005-06 levels, the release said.
