In his annual fall address on Wednesday, Associated Students Inc. President Terry Martin announced that his two primary goals were to educate more students about ASI and to increase student involvement in ASI.

There were 25 students who came to the address.

Martin outlined the two ways he planned to raise awareness of ASI. First, Martin said he would like to implement classroom presentations about ASI and second, to use social media networks such as Facebook to promote events.

“How can we be representing students who don’t know us and know what we do?” Martin said. “We have committed ourselves to going out there and being that board of directors that asks you what you want.”

Martin said he wanted to make ASI as accessible to students as possible and will even be holding office hours in the Quad for students to ask him concrete questions about the campus or plans they’d like to see in the future.

Martin also said there are several budgeting committees throughout ASI that help direct how money is spent in Sac State, and he urged students to become involved in them.

“We’re always looking for more students to fill these spots,” Martin said.

Pablo Baxter, junior business administration major and transfer student from Folsom Lake College, came to the address to be more involved in campus activities.

“I want to learn about everything this school has to offer so I can make the most out of my experience here,” Baxter said, “I’m just trying to make the most out of everything that’s offered to me on campus.”

Other initiatives Martin mentioned were making textbooks more affordable; creating a student lobbying corps to represent the importance of higher education to the Legislature; and expanding Onecard discounts throughout Sacramento. He said ASI will meet Wednesday to vote on all of the proposals.
