Hornet fans drive to Stanford

Hornet fans are going to Sacramento State’s first football game of the season vs. Stanford at Stanford today. Because it is such a big away game, the Alumni Association arranged to have four charter buses take a number of students, alumni and other fans to the game and back.

“It’s a great deal to get on the bus so we don’t have to drive” said Yvonne Thornton, 2008 alumna. “We go to every game, so we might as well go to Stanford right?”

This wasn’t the first time the Alumni Association arranged a bus trip for an away football game. If it’s a big enough game, and if there seems to be a demand for it, than the association arranges the trip, said the Alumni Association’s Executive Director, Jennifer Barber.

A couple years ago, the association arranged for four or five buses take fans to the big Cal game a couple of years ago Barber said.

“It is really important to have these bus trips for the away games, because it gives alumni the opportunity to get to know each other, and to renew their bonds with Sac State,” Barber said

“I think this is great” said Alumnus Tim Harper about the busses, “I think this is a really good opportunity to get people together and have a good time.”

Part of the $30-$55 bus and game ticket price that the fans paid included food, drink and tailgate activities.

“I’m pumped,” Lashaun Burse, sophomore music major, said about the game, “I think they’ll do pretty good. They kind of had an up and down year last year, but I think they’ll do well this year.”
