Sacramento State administration has reached a settlement with a university employee who filed a suit against the university on accounts of retaliation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, according to The Sacramento Bee.

Cici Mattiuzzi, career counselor in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, began her career with Sac State in 1978 at the campus Career Center. She said her persistence and frequency of complaints over a period of 18 years about retired engineering professor Miroslav Markovic caused administrators to deny her of a promotion.

According to The Sacramento Bee, the university settled with Mattiuzzi by paying her $62,500 and promoting her to a $92,000-a-year job. Mattiuzzi previously earned $61,000 per year in her position as career counselor.

The settlement said the new salary is retroactive to July 1, 2009, which will give Mattiuzzi a pay increase of about $15,000, according to The Sacramento Bee. The university is also restoring all the sick leave Mattiuzzi used during her five-month absence.

The suit filed in August 2009 by Mattiuzzi alleged that Markovic made sexual advances toward a student, stalked a student at his home, assaulted a staff member and threatened to shoot an international student and two IT workers. The suit also charged Sac State with retaliation against Mattiuzzi by passing her up for promotions.

The same month the law suit was filed, Markovic announced his retirement. He told The Sacramento Bee his retirement was due to recent budget cuts and required furlough days. Markovic was signed up to teach a full schedule of courses that semester.

Markovic was not mentioned in the settlement.
