The Associated Students, Inc. board of directors elected two board members at the meeting held on Wednesday.

Newly elected Director of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Fely Sita-Makaba and Director of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies Logan Taxdal were sworn in by ASI President Roberto Torres.

Senior biological science major Sita-Makaba, who’s been involved with African student organizations at Sacramento State, said she will bring a level of diversity to the board. Senior liberal studies major Taxdal acted as vice president of member development for Sigma Phi Epsilon and said he plans to apply the leadership skills he exercised within his fraternity.

Director of Undeclared Yeimi Lopez said there was insufficient publicity for Taxdal’s position. Torres defended his decision by saying there was adequate advertising about the position, and Taxdal is the most qualified candidate.

“Even if I spent two more weeks taking applications, we would not find a more qualified candidate than Logan,” Torres said.

ASI Executive Director Patricia Worley reminded the board that it is Torres’ responsibility to seek out candidates for vacant positions, and that even though promotional action is sometimes taken by ASI, there is no formal obligation to recruit or gather applications.

The board members also approved 15 scholarships for the spring semester, and proposed having a spring advocacy award as a pilot project for this semester.
