The play, “Sex Talk”, will have audience members laughing out loud as the production takes center stage at Sacramento State’s Hinde Auditorium October 17 and 18.

“Sex Talk”, written and produced by Gaelika Brown, is a play composed entirely of three female monologists who share stories of sex, romance, relationships, dating and sexually transmitted disease. It is being shown at Sacramento State to raise money for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition to benefit ovarian cancer and awareness.

The three women sit on stage throughout the performance, each rising to tell their unique stories. Woman one is determined to find the perfect man, woman two does not believe in love, and woman three will do anything for love.

Brown wrote “Sex Talk” in the spring of 2005 during her junior year of college. Brown said she wanted to write about a topic that would relate to college-aged students-sex.

“People my age don’t really go to see theater and when they think of theater they always think of Shakespeare and no one is really in to Shakespeare, so I wanted to create something that I thought my peers would enjoy,” Brown said. “The first thing that comes to mind is sex.”

Brown, who plays female number two, said the three female characters are based off her life experiences and her own personal relationships with others.

Julia Meese, senior theater major, is woman number three in “Sex Talk”. Meese said that she is able to relate to some of the personal issues of her character.

“The play, even though it is called “Sex Talk, it is not just about sex. Some sex stories are really fun and some are really sad. But, at the same time it’s also deeper than that. It’s about these women and their encounters with men and how they deal with men in their own personal and private way,” said Meese.

This is Brown’s third production of “Sex Talk” and the second time the performance has been brought to Sac State.

“Sex Talk” will be performed October 17 at 6 p.m. and October 18 at 1 p.m. in the University Union’s Hinde Auditorium. General admission at the door is $13 and $11 with any college identification.
