Student injured in fatal downtown crash taken off life support

A 20-year-old Sacramento State student injured when the car she was driving was struck by a Sacramento Fire Department truck was taken off life support and died today, according to media reports.

Kirsten Ross’ 2004 Honda Civic was hit by a fire engine around 2 a.m. Saturday as she crossed the intersection of 9th and L Streets. Her passenger, 20-year-old Nancy Concepcion Gonzalez of Roseville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire engine was responding to a structure fire in Land Park with its lights and sirens on, a Sacramento Fire Department press release said.

Immediately after the accident, firefighters provided first aid to the victims. No firefighters were injured in the crash.

Ross was then taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where she remained on life support until this afternoon.
