The Sacramento State women’s volleyball team lost to the Nevada Wolf Pack for the first time ever tonight at home.

In the 3-2 victory for the Wolf Pack(30-27, 30-32, 21-30, 30-25, 16-14), the Hornets drop to 22-5 overall for the season. This is the fifth loss for the Hornets and all five losses have been in five games.

Luckily for the Hornets, tonight’s match was non-conference. The team resumes Big Sky Conference play on Friday night when it takes on Weber State.

Tonight’s victory for the Wolf Pack snapped an 18-match winning streak for the Hornets that dates back to 1978.

The Hornets lacked defense in the match, allowing Nevada’s Karly Sipherd to post a career-high 29 kills including six in the fifth game. She also posted nine blocks, including one in the crucial fifth game.

Hornet offense was off throughout the match as the team posted a .158 hitting percentage, although some players did post big numbers.

Senior outside hitter Missie Stidham had a match-high 30 kills to go along with her 16 digs and three blocks. Seniors Lindsay Haupt and Jennifer Ferguson also contributed to Hornet offense with 16 and 12 kills respectively.

The team has six more matches to play on the regular season schedule. Each of the last six matches is a Big Sky Conference match.

The team will host the conference tournament on Nov. 23-24 in which it has won for the last ten consecutive seasons.Contact Alicia de la Garza at [email protected]
