The Sacramento State women’s soccer team clinched its first berth in the Big Sky Tournament since 2001 on Thursday with a 2-0 win over Idaho State.

The Hornets got going early when in the sixth minute defender Tiffany Fraser scored her first career goal to give Sac State a 1-0 lead. The Hornets (8-6-3, 4-0-1) were out-shot by Idaho State (4-11-1, 1-3-1) by a total of 5-1 in the first half, but went into the break with the lead thanks to Fraser’s goal.

The score stayed the same until Sac State’s leading scorer, forward Katie McCoy, scored her seventh goal of the season off an assist from fellow forward Kayelyn Satkowski. Sac State held the edge in second half shots by a tally of 7-4.

Hornets goalie Jenny Lawrence was forced to make just three saves on the day on the way to her fifth shutout of the season. The win keeps Sac State as the only undefeated Big Sky team in conference play.

Sac State’s final regular season game is at Weber State (11-4-1, 4-1-0) on Saturday at 9 a.m. If the Hornets win or tie they will host the conference tournament for the first time in school history. If the Hornets lose Saturday then Weber State will host the tournament in Ogden on Nov. 3 and 5. The win also extends the Hornets winning streak to five straight games and runs its unbeaten streak to six games.
