Julio Velazquez appeared in court Thursday and had his trial delayed until March 23.

Velazquez, who graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, is charged with 16 felony counts including grand theft, embezzlement and forgery. Count one charges that he took $18,125 from Associated Students Inc., where he served as both executive vice president (2003-05) and vice president of finance (fall of 2005).

Velazquez has not yet entered a plea.

If Velazquez pleads to the first count, he could face up to three years in prison, said Ron Linthucum, deputy district attorney.

Velazquez’s attorney, Donald Heller, refused to comment or answer questions at the courthouse, but previously stated that he hoped the case could be peacefully solved.
