Request made for resumes of Gonzalez Jr.’s opponents

The State Hornet filed a written request under the California Open Records Law for the cover letters and resumes of all applicants to the position of associate director of development at Sacramento State on Thursday after verbal requests were denied.

The request comes as part of an investigation into the hiring of Alexander Gonzalez Jr. by Sac State in February.

“Everything was above board,” Sac State spokesman Frank Whitlatch said. “We hired the most qualified candidate.”

There were about 15 applicants for the position, said Carole Hayashino, vice president for university advancement.

References were called for three of the applicants, Hayashino said. Two, including Gonzalez, were interviewed.

Hayashino wanted to make it clear that President Alexander Gonzalez had nothing to do with his son’s hiring. She and the chancellor’s office hired him.

Sac State officials were cooperative in releasing the letter of application, cover letter, resume and employment contract for Alexander Gonzalez Jr.

As provided by the state Open Records Law, Sac State officials have 10 working days to respond to the request for the additional information.
