The State Hornet announces editorial board

The State Hornet editorial positions for the fall semester have been selected by editor in chief Nate Miller.

Vincent Gesuele, assistant sports editor during the spring semester, will serve as the managing editor. Gesuele, a senior journalism and exercise science double major, wrote in the features section last fall.

Andrew Nixon will return as the photo editor. Nixon, a sophomore photography major, served the last two semesters as photo editor after serving one semester as an assistant photo editor and one semester as a staff photographer. Nixon is also a member of the Publication Board.

The news section will be led by news editor Nika Megino and assistant news editor Jamie Gonzales. Megino, a senior government-journalism major, improved coverage of daily news online as the assistant news editor in the spring after writing in the news section in the fall.

Gonzales, a senior government-journalism major, wrote in the news section during the 2005-06 school year and photographed during the 2004-05 school year. Gonzales also has a background in freelance photography and writing and served as a staff photographer and writer on The Current at Cosumnes River College in spring of 2004.

Opinion editor Jenna Hughes and assistant opinion editor Alicia Loza-Ponce will run the opinion section. Hughes, a senior journalism and Asian studies double major, served as the opinion editor in the spring after writing in the features section in the fall. Loza-Ponce, a senior journalism major, wrote in the news section this spring.

Liz Gransee will continue in the features section as the features editor with the help of assistant features editor Frank Miller. Gransee, a senior public relations major, increased online coverage as the assistant features editor in the spring after writing in the features section in the fall. She has worked as a volunteer for the Journalism Association of Community Colleges in the spring 2005 and 2006 and was named a board member for the California College Media Association at the spring convention.

Frank Miller, a junior journalism major, wrote features in his first semester at Sac State. Before joining The State Hornet, Miller served as copy editor, online editor, features editor and staff writer on The Connection at American River College.

The sports section will be headed by sports editor Armando Botello II and assistant sports editor Karyn Gilbert. Botello, a senior journalism and religious studies double major, served as the sports editor last year.

Karyn Gilbert, a junior journalism major, joins the staff after being the editor in chief, sports editor, news editor, photo editor and business major on The Impact at San Joaquin Delta College.

Brandon Darnell, Lauren King and Liz Wilson help maintain accuracy and improve The State Hornet Style Guide as copy editors. Darnell, a senior journalism major, served the last semester covering the police beat in the news section. King, a junior journalism major, wrote in the features section. Wilson, a senior government-journalism double major, served as the newsroom manager in the spring and is a member of the Publication Board.

Robert Alvis, a senior journalism and exercise science double major, will return as the design editor.

The State Hornet is still looking for graphic artists interested in the graphic editor position. Interested parties should stop by The State Hornet office on the second floor of the University Union to fill out an application or contact the editor in chief.
