Third journal

The fourth week of the 5-on-5 season has come and gone, and so have two more losses for everybody’s favorite team, the Duke Blue Devils. We finished off the season at 1-6 and didn’t make the Rec Sports NCAA Tournament and we’ll most likely be a low seed in the intramural NIT.

Even though we lost both games this week, they were both eventful. Coming into Monday night’s game the team we were playing was not only 5-0, they had only allowed a total of 61 points through those five games (you do the math). For the first couple minutes of the game we played them tough. One of their big men tried to post me up and I blocked his shot against the backboard. No foul was called, so the guy proceeded to get his own rebound, turn around and throw the ball at my head — great sportsmanship. Long story short, he got T’d up and ejected, but we ended up losing 59-30 with no subs. I tried to take two charges, but got two no calls, once again.

On Wednesday evening there was a clash of 1-5 teams. We were paying a team that we should have had no trouble beating. Unfortunately for us there was only one referee for our game so calls were made that shouldn’t have been made, others not made that should have. I can’t blame Rec Sports for that, but there came a point in the game where we had taken an 11-point lead with three minutes to play and I hadn’t taken a charge yet. The catch was I had four fouls. We had a turnover on the offensive end, and I got back on defense to the top of the key and stood there as one of their guards came barreling down the entire length of the court, dipped his shoulder into me and knocked me down. This was a for sure charge call! I had done it, broken the curse of the Rec Sports charge call! … NOT! I got called for my fifth foul, a block, less than 20 seconds after receiving my fourth. So after I fouled out we proceeded to lose that 11-point lead in three minutes, losing 49-47. Gimme a break-
