‘Flops!’ flopped

Is “Flops!” ?” a showcase of the best songs from the worst of Broadway production ?” flopping out? Sacramento State’s Alumni Theatre Project originally scheduled the musical to begin playing on Feb. 10, but because of recent cast scheduling conflicts it has been canceled for the time being.

Unfortunately, so close to opening cast members were unable to commit to the scheduled times, said writer and photographer Steve McKay of Public Affairs. Tickets for the show ?” which were sold at various prices ranging from $10 for students to $20 for the general public ?” are now being refunded at the Sac State Ticket Office.

The proceeds from this production were planned to go towards a scholarship fund for fall 2006 entering freshman. Lenaea Theatre Festival is a three-day program held for high school students interested in entering the Theatre Department at Sac State. These students are also eligible to apply for the scholarship. Approximately 65 high schools across the west coast attended this year’s program during Jan. 27-29.

Although the Alumni Theatre Project is hoping to reschedule the musical before the semester is over there is no guarantee, said Scott Adams, administrative analyst.

There may not be an opportunity for incoming freshman to apply for the scholarship if the production doesn’t show by summer, Adams said. They are looking into alternative options, such as contacting previous donators, or a new fund raiser event to compensate for the loss, he continued.

If the musical does not make its debut this spring, it will be expected to play during the 2006-07 school year. The scholarship may cease for a year, but will resume once funding is accumulated, Adams said. The production has gotten rave reviews among the Public Affairs office. McKay and Adams are hopeful of the plays unveiling.
