In a scene that has become familiar for Sacramento State fans, the Hornets fell on their home court in the final seconds Saturday to Idaho State 72-71.

David Schroeder hit a game-winning 3-pointer over the outstretched arm of Clark Woods with just 7.8 seconds left to win the game for the Bengals.

“We need to get stops,” Dashawn Freeman said. “It’s not hard to do.”

Schroeder ended the game with 17 points and six rebounds.

Sac State has now lost its last four home games by a combined nine points.

The Hornets, who had missed 3-pointers in the closing minute of their last three home games, went for another Thursday.

Loren Leath hit the shot to put the team up two with just 21 seconds remaining. The freshman shooting guard finished with 26 points on 8-of-18 shooting.

It wasn’t enough for the Hornets who lost a 17-point first half lead.

After being down 24-7, the Bengals went on a 26-10 run to close the half.

Freeman had seven steals in the contest, the fifth time he has reached that number in his Hornet career.

The Hornets had a chance to clinch a berth in the Big Sky Conference tournament with a win, but will now look to do it on the road.

Jenkins said the team is going to get a win on the road after the game.

The Hornets will head to Montana, a team they lost to at home last week 73-71, to attempt to get that win.
