Hornets look to bounce back against Northern Arizona

Coming off of back-to-back home losses, Sacramento State will look to dish out the same kind of home disappointment that was served to them last week.

Head coach Jerome Jenkins said after the loss to Montana 73-71 that his team needs to make other teams feel the way the Hornets felt after losing at home.

And if there was a conference foe that the Hornets have had road success against, it is this week’s opponent, Northern Arizona. The Hornets have gone on the road and beaten NAU three straight years, the most recent on a DaShawn Freeman three-pointer with less than two seconds on the clock.

That kind of clutch shooting has been missing for the Hornets recently.

After an Alex Bausley baseline jumper beat Idaho State on the road, the team has squandered chances at the end of both the Montana State and Montana games to tie or win the game at the buzzer.

NAU has had much better luck against the Montana schools, having already beaten both teams.

The Hornets (13-7, 4-2) currently sit third in the Big Sky Conference while NAU (14-6, 4-0) is alone on top as the only undefeated team in conference play.

Handing the Lumberjacks their first loss could go a long way to help the Hornets climb up in the conference rankings.

Jenkins said that the team needs to win a few games on the road and they should be back in the conference lead chase.

The game tips off at 3:35 p.m. on Saturday in Flaggstaff.
