The Sacramento State Alumni Association has launched its own Web site, zHornets.com, dedicated to spreading information about the association to current as well as future alumni.

The site presently run by zUniversity acts as a homepage and is a model that carries hopes of becoming a network with other CSU campuses.

“Hopefully most if not all CSU?s will connect,” said Linda Scott, the association?s Director of Membership Development.

Scott said that the association?s goal is to have a free-flowing network of information that is both pertinent and readily available to alumni in many regions.

“You can immediately see what the alumni center looks like, even if you?re from out of town and have never visited the building,” Scott said. “We want to get everybody that uses the web to know what is going on around campus.”

The site is currently linked to Hornet athletic site, the State Hornet Online site, as well as the campus? main website, www.csus.edu.

The site resembles many homepages on the Internet. It has local news, weather, and entertainment links and also offers the ability to customize the page to the user?s liking. It has a login screen and an offer for free Email for members of the alumni association and advertisement blink and flash all over the page.

Scott said what sets this site apart is its focus. “The reason this site is unique comes from the fact that there is a lot of alumni news,” Scott said. Scott said association wants to open the site to existing students “so they can look and see what the association is doing.”

However, since the site has only been up and running since last summer?s Olympic trials, it is still a work in progress.

“This is so new I can see a lot of things that need to be changed, and that is happening,” Scott said. “I think the front page is too busy. And it should be more local. The uniqueness comes from being localized.”
