Controversy adds drama to Grammy?s Awards

In the past, there have been controversies about many musical artists being shutout of Grammy nominations. This year, however, will be different.

Why? Because though rapper Eminem?s controversial lyrics on his CD are degrading to gays and lesbians, he has still received nominations for four Grammy’s, including Album of the Year.

What?s more interesting is that Britney Spears, N?Sync, and Christina Aguilera were also nominated for Grammy?s. All of those nominees were victims of Eminem?s degrading. As a result, many gay and lesbian organizations will allegedly protest at the awards show.

The 43rd Annual Grammy Awards will be held in the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be televised live only on the eastern and central time zones (8 p.m., Eastern Time/7 p.m., Central Time on CBS). In Sacramento, the awards presentation will be seen at 7 p.m., on KOVR Channel 13, the CBS affiliate in Sacramento.

The performance of Eminem will probably be the most anticipated of all performances. The most surprising aspect is that he will collaborate with Elton John. Destiny?s Child, N?Sync and many other artists will also perform at the Grammy’s.

Controversy in the past has always plagued the Grammy’s. In the last three years, there have been two incidents that occurred at the show, the first being when a male stranger stormed the stage shouting the words “Soy Bomb” during Bob Dylan’s performance.

Another incident involved rap artist Ol? Dirty Bastard, who unexpectedly took the stage and made some comments before Shawn Colvin won one of her many awards.

Also in the past, CBS has given a TV-PG rating for some content that may be offensive. However, this year, CBS has given the Grammy awards a TV-14 rating because of the possible controversial performance by Eminem.

Also nominated for Grammy’s are Mystikal, Common, Dr. Dre, Faith Hill, Sisqo, Jill Scott, 3 Doors Down, U2, Sting and Macy Gray. There are over 80 award categories, including Record of The Year and Album of The Year.
