Free your mind as the Department of Theatre and Dance at Sacramento State hosts faculty recitals Dec. 7 through Dec. 9.

The concert, which is titled “Free the Mind,” is a creation emerging from the recently fused Department of Theatre and Dance.

Students, professionals and community-based dancers will take the stage in performances created by dance coordinator Dale Scholl, and other Sac State faculty. Scholl will present new work, which employs live, original music, to be performed by local recording artists, Long and Marazino.

Faculty members, whose works will be performed include Linda Goodrich, Nolan T’Sani, Carrie Pereira, Jose Borrego, Angela Alforque and Lisa Hermann.

Members of the Dale Scholl Dance/Art company will perform a Hermann dance piece. The title, “Sporadic Synchronicity,” is set to music by Phil Collins and Genesis.

Pereira has developed a community-based company that includes members who will perform three repertory pieces. In addition, T’Sani has created a special piece for advanced level dancers.

The Free the Mind program includes choreography of ballet, jazz, and modern. There is also scheduled to be cultural dance forms from Mexican folkloric, Filipino organizations and student club, African Creative Expressions.

All three concerts will be held at the University Theatre on the Sacramento State campus. Performances begin at 8 p.m. and admission is $10 for students, seniors and alumni, $12 for general audiences and $8 for children under 12 years. Tickets can be purchased through the Central Ticket Office on the Sac State campus. The contact for the office is (916) 278-4323, or visit Tickets.com.
