On Thursday, Max Dashu, an independent historian and freelance teacher of international women?s studies will be speaking to the Sacramento State community in the University Union?s Hinde Auditorium. The presentation will begin at 11:45 a.m. and will consist of a lecture and slide show.

The lecture will explore the historical aspects of witchcraft and of the European persecutions of the inquisitional torture-trials.

Dashu will specifically speak about the impact of the hunts of Western civilization. The Women?s Resource Center helped organize Dashu?s appearance on campus.

“We felt that people should be more aware of the historical context of the persecutions of women. We also thought since it is close to Halloween, she would be an interesting presentation,” said Pat Grady, director of the Women?s Resource Center.

Dashu founded the Suppressed Histories Archives in 1970 and ever since, she has photographed over 10,000 slides and has created approximately 80 slide shows on international women?s history.

Dashu has presented numerous slide talks at universities, bookstores, prisons, libraries and various festivals. She has also done extensive interdisciplinary research on European Witch Hunts.

Dashu has also been a historical consultant for projects including a film by Donna Dietch called Woman to Woman and the San Francisco Woman?s Building mural project.
