In an effort to cope with the sewage problems off campus, President Donald Gerth has cancelled all classes until 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The sewage problem is caused by some kind of blockage in the main sewer line located near Elvis Avenue and the railroad tracks, according to Donald Tucker, assistant director of operations for the University Union.

All of the restrooms on campus were closed shortly after noon due to a sewage problem in the city.

“There is a sewage problem with the city which is affecting the campus,” said Donna Thomason, of the president?s office.

The problem has pulled administrators from all departments to assess the situation. Howard Harris, director of facilities management, talked to the city to try and figure out the prognosis on when the problem will be fixed.

“I hope everything will be fixed in an hour or an hour and a half,” Harris said.

Jon Self, associate vice president for finance said since the city doesn?t have a definite time on when the sewage problem will be fixed the administrators involved were forced to make the recommendation to the President to close the campus.

Although the restrooms have only been closed since about noon, the problem is already affecting the student population.
