Big Sky Women’s Tourney Review

The Big Sky Women’s Basketball Tournament finished up Saturday when the two tops seeds, Weber State University (19-9) and Montana State University (21-7), dueled it out.

Weber State proved to be too much for Montana and claimed its second-straight Big Sky championship in a solid 63-52 drubbing of the Bobcats. The Wildcats, seeded No. 13 in the NCAA Tournament, will go on to play against the No. 4-seeded ranked Ohio State University in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Mar. 23.

Other than Weber State, a total of two Big Sky women’s teams will compete in post-season competition. Both Montana University and Montana State will continue play in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. In the first round, Montana State will face off against Wyoming University, while Montana University will play against Colorado State. Both games are set for Friday, Mar. 21.

Both Weber and Montana State left behind a trail of victims on the path to the top of the Big Sky tournament – although they found themselves tied for the top spot with each other. This year marked the second-straight time a co-championship situation has happened in the Big Sky.
