Men’s tennis serves up win against North Dakota

After starting the season 0-2 in Big Sky Conference matches, the Sacramento State men’s tennis team has hit its stride, winning four of its last five in conference competition.

On Friday, Sac State faced University of North Dakota and won 6-1. The Hornets are now 8-12 overall, 5-3 in the Big Sky. With the win, Sac State will look to get to its sixth straight conference title.

There are only four matches remaining, and two of which are Big Sky matches. The Hornets will take on Northern Colorado on Saturday and Northern Arizona on Sunday.

The Hornets got wins by everyone except freshman Ayman Abdulwahab playing at No. 5 (6-7, 0-5).

Junior Roy Brandys won at No. 1 (6-4), sophomore Niranjan Ram won at No. 2 (6-0, 7-5), sophomore Joaquin Marquez won at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1), junior Oliver Andersen won at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3), and junior Alejandro Villarreal won at No. 6 (6-4, 6-4).

The Hornets won all three of their doubles matches. Brandys and Ram won at No. 1 (6-4), Andersen and Villarreal won at No. 2 (8-6), and Abdulwahab and Marquez won at No. 3 (8-3).

Sac State will take on Northern Colorado on Saturday at 1 p.m.
