The Sacramento State women’s sand volleyball team played its final two matches of the season Saturday.

The Hornets won its first match of the day against San Jose State 5-0, its first sweep of the season, and lost its second match to UC Berkeley 4-1.

In match one against San Jose State Kayla Beal and Katie Aprile defeated Megan Powers and McKenzie Palassou, 13-21, 21-19, 15-11. The Hornets would end up sweeping the Spartans in every match.

In the match against Cal, the Hornets lone victory came from the duo of freshmen Morgan Stanley and Kendall LaVine. They went on to beat Katarina Milosavljevic and Sabrina Blackwell by a score of 21-18, 16-21, 15-7. The rest of the pairings for Sac State lost in straight sets.

The lopsided defeat comes as a bit of a surprise because of the close matches these two teams played earlier in the season, where the schools won one apiece.

Sac State finishes the season with a record of 3-9, winning one more match than a season ago. Aprile and Beal spent the entire year in the No.1 slot and finished with a 6-6 record in what has been their last season of volleyball at Sacramento State.
