The Sacramento State women’s soccer team lost its first-round NCAA College Cup game against Stanford tonight 3-0 at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium in Stanford.

It was the Hornets’ second trip to the NCAA Tournament. Sac State made the tournament in 2007 and also lost to Stanford (7-0).

Despite a season-high 11 saves from goalkeeper Savannah Abercrombie, the Hornets’ season would end.

The game was scoreless until the 66th minute when Stanford’s Sydney Payne notched the first goal of the game. Taylor McCann scored in the 82nd minute and Nikita Watkins in the 87th minute.

The Cardinal moves to 19-0-2 on the season and advances to the next round.

Sac State’s season ends after the first-round loss. The team finished 9-10-2 and were crowned champions of the Big Sky Conference on Sunday.
